Electrical therapy and biofeedback for incontinence problems can take place in an outpatient clinic, doctor's practice, or medical centre. Alternatively, the user may be able to loan a device for home use. Most of the products are covered by a rental scheme for treatment devices. Here is a presentation of the rental scheme and how it functions in practice.

Electrical stimulationcan be performed using small plugs inserted in the vagina and/or in the rectum. Ring electrodes can also be positioned on the penis. Electrodes can also be attached directly to the skin. Electrical impulses can influence nerves in different types of musculature and restore normal voiding mechanisms. The treatment is simple, safe and painless.

Biofeedback for pelvic floor training involves the use of specially designed probes that measure muscle activity in the pelvic floor. The probes generate a response on a screen on a small device. The user will get feedback about the correct use of muscles, muscle strength and endurance.

Patients must contact their regular GPs to discuss their problems with leakage. If the regular GP does not have an established programme for this in their practice, he or she can refer the patient to a specialist. This may be a gynaecologist, a urologist, a gastrologist, a urotherapist or a physiotherapist.

The rental scheme applies to all patients anywhere in Norway. This means that the patient can loan a home device free of charge. The application form can be downloaded from our home page. You can also order the form by contacting Vitacon. The selected product is described in the open field, and the application is sent to the unit for therapeutic devices at the hospital to which the patient belongs. Within a few days, a device will be sent to the person who sends the requisition, who is also responsible for user training. The patient can borrow the equipment for 3-6 months. At the end of the rental period, the patient will receive a letter in the post asking them to return the device. A franked envelope is included with the device. All disposable equipment such as probes and tubes can be discarded.

Treatment data is stored with all the devices. This is record provides documentation that the device has been used as prescribed and provides a basis for further evaluation and follow-up.

Give your patients the opportunity to try this. But remember that a feeling of confidence, motivation, and good follow-up are important for successful treatment.
